Reports to the Store Manager.

We are seeking a Manager in Training who shares Tomlinson’s vision and believes in our mission. The Manager in Training position will prepare you for leadership opportunities with Tomlinson’s. As theManager in Training you will c omplete weekly trainings through on the job training, videos, and readings. In addition to training, you will assist the Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager in daily operations. All MIT training must be completed to move into an Assistant Manager and/or Store Manager role.

This is not working at your average pet retail store and no one day on the job is the same. But…

….on a typical day, you will:

  • Offer each of our four-legged customers a belly rub and treats (sorry, this is a requirement!)
  • Get to know your local community: their names, their needs, and more
  • Train on new products or information about pet nutrition
  • Receive, stock, and rotate healthy pet products
  • Help train and teach new staff.
  • Work as a team with coworkers to achieve sales goals and milestones
  • Do what’s best for our guests and their pets

Other responsibilities include:

  • Assuring that customer service and satisfaction exceeds our guests’ expectations.
  • Actively participates in inventory management including receiving, cycle counts, rotating, restocking, fronting, facing, and cleaning.
  • Assisting in directing sales in accordance with Company philosophy and procedures.
  • Opening and closing the store, daily reconciliation, and cash handling.
  • Assisting the Store Manager with daily store operations in accordance with Company standards.
  • Communicating with staff and home office.
  • Assisting the Store Manager with on-the-job training of staff in customer delight, product knowledge, and operations.
  • Product merchandising as directed by the Merchandising Manager.
  • Helps to ensure that all shelves, pegs, baskets, etc. are accurately priced and labeled.
  • Makes decisions which reflect best judgment informed by an understanding of Tomlinson’s principles, practices, and customer experience.
  • Understands Tomlinson’s store operations procedures and their purpose.
  • Understands and applies the principles and practices as laid out in Tomlinson’s employee handbook.
  • Works safely and helps maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Shares information with customers, learns from them, and acts with good judgment to help them.
  • Continually learns how, when, and for what situations to recommend products for sale in the store.
  • Successfully participates in required initial and on-going training.

Time Commitment
Tomlinson’s is open Monday-Sunday and Managers in Training should have the flexibility to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.

Physical requirements
This position requires you to be on your feet for the majority of your shift. You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis in order to stock the store and to do carry outs for customers.

Qualifications:
Retail experience strongly preferred.
